The Barrie Youth Cup on Saturday (May 30th) was my second race of the season, after the Morning Glory Grand Prix. It was a cloudy and very windy day. It was neither too hot nor too cold, but still the weather was a little gloomy. There were 14 riders in my race (Peewee boys), including me. I was a little nervous at the start, but not too much. During the race, there were many attacks that my teammate Wesley Hill and I had to respond to, which was not easy. By the second lap, Wesley and I had a gap, but we could only hold it for about two laps. Another rider (Finlay MacEwen) attacked and the three of us had a gap, but we were caught soon afterwards. Then, an attack by Owen Clarke caused some separation between riders, but it didn’t take long for Wesley and I to catch up, at 2 laps to go. In the finale, I was on Wesley’s wheel going into the final corner. Right after we turned I opened up my sprint and gained a couple of bike-lengths on Owen and Wesley to take the victory.
Congratulations to my teammate Wesley, who won the time trial earlier that day and won the points race overall.
