Attending the March Break Road and Track Camp, was a great way to help all the riders get a good start for the upcoming road season. Coach Rob Good and Jeff Schiller spent the week with us at the Milton Velodrome running the camp. We began each day with a road ride along the escarpment when the weather permitted, and did trainer workouts when it weather was poor. We then had a minimum of two hours of structured track training, with each day focusing on different efforts like pursuits and sprints as well as learning different race tactics. We were given the chance to put our newly learned race tactics to use during a race night on Thursday. Each day we had a different seminar, whether it was strength and conditioning, nutrition, or sports psychology. Brendan Murphy was the strength and conditioning instructor, who taught us different workouts to do off the bike to improve our strength. Christine Dziedzic was the sports nutritionist, who taught us how to properly fuel ourselves for training and racing. Lisa Veloce who was the Mental Performance Consultant, taught us the importance of being mentally strong and the huge effect it can have on our performance as well as how to be mentally strong. Overall the camp was a very good start to the season, helping us to prepare, physically, mentally, and nutritionally. Thanks to guest speakers Brendan Murphy, Christine Dziedzic, and Lisa Veloce for sharing their expertise with everyone. Also a special thanks to Coach Rob Good and Jeff Schiller for running a very successful camp.
